ZAR has been awarded with two Danish Music Awards-Folk
The Danish folkmusicband ZAR recieved their second Danish Music Award in Tønder March 2004, and hereby stated their position on the Danish folk-scene.
It was the singer Sine Lauritzen who was awarded as folk-vocalist of the year on behalf of the group's second CD "Tusind tanker".
ZAR also recieved a Danish Music Award for best debutrecording in 2002 for the album "Strengeleg".
The singer Sine Lauritzen joined the band after the first recording, and that has given ZAR a new musical spectre which appeals to awider audience. One of the original members, the guitarist Rasmus Zeeberg, says that the trademark for ZAR is a constant renewal and challenge of the music, still with great respect for the traditions.
"The Danish traditional music has changed it's image, and naturally we're proud to be a part of that development that has been taking place for the last couple of years. Nowadays it has been accepted that the different bands experiment with the music, which has resulted in a necessary revival of the traditional music - still with the original expression in the music."
These are the words of Rasmus Zeeberg, who is educated as a classical guitarist on the Royal Danish Music Academy in Copenhagen.
