Lars Hannibal


B i o g r a p h y  Lars Hannibal

Lars Hannibal studied guitar at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus, Denmark, and the lute with Toyohiko Satoh in the Hague.

He has toured the world as a chamber musician and has recorded 10 CD`s for EMI playing in "Duo Concertante" with the violinist Kim Sjøgren.

Lars Hannibal also plays in duo with recorder player Michala Petri, with whom he has recorded two CD`s "Souvenir" and "Air". In 2000 they recorded their third CD with music inspired by Fritz Kreisler.

In 1995 he released the CD "Romance" with Spanish Music for guitar solo.

In 1991 he was presented with FTF`s cultural award, and in 1993 with the Danish Soloist Union`s anniversary grant.

In 1998 he formed a new duo with danish trompeter Michael Brydenfelt with whom he in 1999 released the album "Memory". This album got very popular in Denmark (Number 2 on the pop-hit list) and recieved a Golden CD after 6 weeks. He also have a duo with danish barytonsinger Lars Thodberg Bertelsen.

Lars Hannibal is also well-known for his collaboration with musicians from other genres including Palle Mikkelborg, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and Svend Asmussen.

As an arranger Lars Hannibal mostly write for combinations where either guitar or lute is involved. On most of his recordings is he also the arranger.

On a smaller scale Lars Hannibal work as composer, mainly writing songs and chamber music.

He taught for many years at the Peter Sabroe National Institute for Social Educators in Aarhus and at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus.

Lars Hannibal plays either Greg Smallman or Robert Ruck guitars. He also plays guitar made by danish guitarmaker Kenneth Brøgger and Claus Rømer.- His lute is made by english lutemaker Paul Thomson.
